Loan Periods:
DVDs: 1 week loan period
Books, Books on CD, and magazines: 2 week loan period
Reference materials: 1 week loan period.
In keeping with the Ontario Library Association’s Children’s Rights in the Public Library: Guidelines for Service, there are no restrictions on the material borrowed by children. While the library staff can advise children on reading interests, the material selected by the child is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
Renewals:
Library items may be renewed in person, by telephone, email or online.
Library materials may be renewed for up to 3 loan periods, provided:
1. The item(s) are not on reserve.
2. The item(s) are not in high demand.
3. The patron has no outstanding overdue library materials.
Fees:
Lost or Damaged Materials:
1. The Library will charge replacement costs for items which are overdue by 60 days or for items
which are damaged or lost.
2. Charges will be assessed by the CEO and will be based on the replacement cost plus a $3.00
processing cost. It may not be possible to replace a specific item with an identical one.
3. Charges will be applied based on the cost of a substitute item or the current market price of
materials when an item is not replaced.
4. Replacement of the item will be left to the discretion of the CEO or designate, in keeping with the
library’s collection development policy at OP-04 Collection Development Policy.
5. A $5.00 charge will be applied to reciprocal library members who return OSMPL materials to
reciprocal libraries (Cavan-Monaghan or Peterborough). After three instances, OSMPL borrowing
privileges will be suspended if the charges are not paid.
Holds/Reserves:
1. Library materials may be reserved in person, by telephone, e-mail or online.
2. Reserves will remain in place for 3 months and may be renewed at that time.
3. When the item becomes available, the patron will be notified and asked to pick-up the item
within 7 days.
Returns:
1. Physical materials borrowed may be returned to the circulation desk at any branch of Otonabee –
South Monaghan Public Library or to an external drop-box.
2. Members are required to return material on or before the due date.
3. Items borrowed by members from Cavan- Monaghan Public Library and The Peterborough Public
Library must be returned to one of the three Otonabee – South Monaghan Public Library branches.
Items returned to an alternate location will incur a charge from OSMPL for recovery.
e-Readers:
· 3 week loan – no renewals
· Late fine: $5.00 per day to a maximum of $30.00
· Limit of one e-Reader kit per card
· Must be picked up at and returned to the Circulation Desk
· Circulation staff must check each kit when it is returned and when it is checked-out for
completeness
· Must have an account in good standing to borrow
· Not available for Inter Library Loan
What titles are on each e-Reader?
A list of titles for each reader is shown in the catalogue as well as on a paper guide included with the kit. A search of the term “e-reader” will retrieve the list of available e-readers.
What comes with an e-Reader kit?
Each kit contains an e-Reader, a case, a USB wall adapter, a USB cable, and a zipped bag. There is also a copy of a user guide that lists the contents of each e-Reader.
Are patrons permitted to download content to the e-reader?
No. The library has already provided a collection of titles for each e-reader and any content downloaded will be deleted.
Are patrons permitted to change the settings of the e-Reader?
Patrons are not permitted to change the e-reader settings except to adjust the font and the font size.
What happens if a patron deletes titles from an e-Reader?
An administration fee of $4.00 per title will be allocated to the patron’s account plus cost of deleted
e-Book.
What are the individual costs to replace the e-reader and the various components of the kit?
The cost to replace an entire kit is $134.00. The cost to replace the respective components is as follows:
e-Reader $90.00
e-Reader Cover $7.00
A/C Adapter $25.00
USB Cable $5.00
Zippered Folder $3.00
Administration processing fee (for parts and deleted e-books) $4.00
Replacement Cost for deleted e-Book (depends on the title)
